When complete, the Broad River Paddle Trail will feature a series of improved river access locations starting from the Lake Lure dam and south to the county line. Each access will include parking, signage, and a safe river access.

Project Status

The County and Tourism Development Authority are currently working with NCDOT, NC Fish and Wildlife Resources, and Duke Energy to complete two accesses where the Broad River intersects with Highway 221 and 221A. Primary funding has been secured to begin implementation of both of these projects, engineering is underway, and construction will begin in the near future. Work has also already begun to secure additional access points identified along the Broad River Paddle Trail.
